The best money is the job inside Camp Lejeune...but he would *rather* have the job in Wilmington, if we can find a rental etc in our low price range that fits us. So, here I am for opinions of course

The shop in Wilmington is on the corner of Shipyard and College...we have only a few hours today to drive around neighborhoods and I want to spend that time very wisely. This is what we would *like* to find and will adjust based on your recommendations :

3/2
2 car garage
less than $1200 per month (if this will not be possible, we may be stuck in TX rather than relocating)
minimum 1500 sf
clean, quiet neighborhood

Our biggest *wish* is to not have neighbors behind us. Does not have to be a park...just a greenbelt or even a preschool or some type of neighborhood business that closes at 5 or 6pm. OK, that one may sound strange...but, so far, we have been very fortunate and have always found a house without back yard neighbors. So it is worth mentioning.

Yes, we will get a realtor to help and I will get to recommendations on that in my next post

Right now, we would love to hear from those who live around that area (Shipyard and College) and can point us in directions to begin looking. OR, will that be a *bad* or *undesireable* area to even begin looking into?

We would like to keep his drive time (if possible!) to 10 minutes or less to his work...also just to note...we will spend a lot of time at the beach if that helps. (I DO realize with our low rent price point we will not get 2 or 3 miles close to the beach Just letting you know in case it helps pin point an area that could work for us.

Sorry for the lengthy post! Thank you It is CRAZY that we only have today to drive around MUST head back to TX around 4am tomorrow...

Shipyard and College will be busy and high-trafficked area, so look a bit further out or closer to Carolina Beach. I did a quick look on Realtor.com rentals. There's a 4 bedroom on Thurgood Road at $1200. It's a 17 minute drive from the job, and it has a fenced backyard that blocks view of neighbors. There's also a 3-bedroom on Mullet Court near CB, that 17 minutes away. And one on Cedar Hope Cove with a densely wooded back yard, but it's 24 minutes away.

So your rental budget is do-able, but you may not find one without neighbors.

look in Pine Valley , both sides of college road.look off George Anderson blvd.
dont go too close to UNCW or you will have lots of student neighbors and all that entails.

1200 $ budget should be easy to find.
I would def pick Wilmington over Jacksonville .
sorry , you did not give us much time to help you out but I wish you the best of luck.

Check out the neighborhood around Long Leaf Hills Dr, or the neighborhood 'Pine Valley.'

I'm so glad you're opting to go for Wilmington over Jville! Trust me, you'll be MUCH happier there Good luck in your search- you've been offered some good advice as far as neighborhoods go already!

edit: I just read your other thread. If Jacksonville pays more, depending on your husband's commute tolerance, yo may want to live in Hampstead and he could commute to Camp Lejeune. Living South of Jacksonville means he'd be able to come through the Sneads Ferry gate and avoid the worst of the base traffic

The reason I recommend Hampstead is pender county is cheaper than New Hanover and Topsail Elementary, Middle and High are all excellent schools.

I work near Shipyard and College and researched the whole area on Spotcrime. If you want to be really close to work and safe you will probably need to live off South College in Monkey Junction and are very unlikely to have the big yard. You could try the Pine Valley or Myrtle
Grove area- they might be your best chance of getting what you want.
Downtown near the river or North College is not safe. You could try Leland for more space but it is over the river, but you can take the back way down Independence and Shipyard and ease the commute somewhat. Personally, I opted for Leland and found a condo backing up to a greenbelt in Windsor Park. Ogden Park is a little closer and is also a safe area.
