The nice thing about Topsail Island is that it's not that far to drive from one end to the other. If you start at North Topsail and the tide is too high, move on south. Actually Serenity Point sounds nice too. Hope you have reservations already.

are there any restuarants that allow dogs? Guess we would need a restaurant that has an outdoor patio? thanks
I have never seen any dogs in the restaurants we have been to. I'd suggest calling around to a few that have outdoor dining areas. Daddy Mac's, Buddy's Crab House, and Sears Landing are possibles.
Beer is allowed on Topsail Beach, but not bottles.
Best bet for dog friendly dining is Home Port in Topsail Beach, or New York Corner Deli in Surf City. Downtown Wilmington along the river has several dog-friendly restaurants.
