Hey everyone,

I have seen the threads about where to go out, and such, for young-professionals, but usually it is a couple or something.

I just moved here after my grad school to do research with metrohealth, etc. And am currently living in Westlake area.

Are there places to go out on the weekends or sparingly during the week in the west-side that I will not feel out of place going to alone. Places with other young professionals that are friendly enough to chat with, or at least friendly enough not to make you feel uncomfortable.

I have got the feeling from a few places here that people can be territorial and the groups of guys at the bar look at you challengingly if you walk in. which is quite different from where I used to be living. Am I just reading too much into it, and just imagining it?

The Cleveland area can be very friendly. It can also be insular and clique-ish. It depends on where you go... My single friends have the same lament, so I'll give you the same advice I give them.

Do you like art? Try the Tremont Art Walks, the second Friday of the month during spring summer, and fall. Dozens of galleries and shops are open, many with entertainment, and there's a very laid-back vibe there. Tremont ArtWalk Cleveland Ohio Art

Do you like music? Try attending an open mic or karaoke night. The participatory nature of these nights makes them more likely to have open and friendly people there. Some places have reputations for being unfriendly if you're not a frat boy or barbie doll (in Lakewood, Corky's and Pug Mahone's, for example), but most welcome everyone with open arms.

Do you like sports? Cleveland has a ton of recreational activities. A friend tells me there's lots of pick-up games (baseball and basketball) at local gyms and parks.

Close to home, I can think of a few other. If you like chess, there are public games at Crocker Park. If you like crafts or community theatre, there's Baycrafters or Huntington Theatre.
Savannah's is one of the resaturant/bar/clubs that I like in Westlake. On live music nights, the bar area is friendly (close to closing time, it gets a bit too friendly sometimes!)

When I first moved here I went to some bars in Lakewood alone. If you are sociable, you should have no problem meeting people and having a good time. The Lakewood bar scene, if you are into bars, is a good place to go. People won't look at you strangely at all, so don't worry about that.

Lakewood Bars definitely.

Also W. 6th Downtown may not be too bad for a single young person.

I would check out Lakewood and Tremont. Good amount of bars, with many that have a chill & friendly atmosphere.
