I know several people from Ontario who have a very positive image of Cleveland. Cleveland has a positive image in Canada, and other places internationally. It helps that Cleveland's orchestra is rated one of the top 10 in the world, has a great park system, major companies, and culture that gets a lot of great international attention, awesome food scene, and so much more. Problem is, Cleveland doesn't promote itself like it should. A lot of people in Cleveland are negative. Leave to come back and realize it's better here than most places around the nation. If Cleveland showed off its many great attributes, it would be in a much better standing nationally. I don't think Cleveland is seen in a lot of categories like other cities: Detroit for its complete oblivion, Chicago/St. Louis for its crime, or Kansas City for the lack of recreational activities.
I was on a flight a few weeks ago from Charlotte to Pittsburgh... I was amazed at how negative the Pittsburgh people (is Yinzers ok?) were about their town. I went on about how great Pittsburgh was doing, and how much it has changed. There was still this stigma with the two people I was sitting by that Pittsburgh offered nothing, and it had no future. It makes you wonder when people will realize reality. When will they realize the economy here is better than most major metros? When will they realize construction is happening in every corner of the city? When will they realize we have a national park, a great lake, museums, a cheap cost of living, you name it right here in metro Cleveland. Cleveland needs to do Cleveland a favor and start showing off its many gems. Cleveland IS a major player, it is time to make more people see it.
On development news. I had no idea Ohio City was opening a hostel which is pretty cool. When I think of hostels I think of Europe. A great location too:

I agree. I used to work at a place that got a lot of tourist foot traffic. Ever wonder why Toronto Blue Jays games always draw such a big crowd compared to other games? Canadians flock here for Jays-Indians games.
They generally are very positive about this area. I think part of that has to do with the fact that Canadians don't hate winter as much as Americans do. So saying "Winter sucks in Cleveland" means nothing to people that REALLY know winter.
