5 Great Neighborhoods in Cleveland | Places | HGTV FrontDoor

Quick read and interesting comments.

I live in Rocky River and getting ready to finally buy vs. rent. The lack of inventory is really frustrating and I'm not sure we are cut out for an old fixer-upper. The trade offs are the close knit and super active neighborhoods and that my kids are truly happy in the schools. But, boy oh boy, I am tempted by those new, big homes in Avon. Luckily my husband talks me down, knowing that I truly wouldn't be happy with the change that comes with moving there.

Brecksville has also been piquing my interest. I'm missing the natural beauty of the green TN hills that we moved from.

What do you think of this list?

Seems like a good cross-section of options, though I find it interesting that Chagrin Falls gets the lack of diversity knock on it and Rocky River doesn't.

Edit: In before "SH schools have NOT dipped a bit/Test Scores aren't indicative of anything/Blah blah blah".

Good picks, IMO.

About Detroit-Shoreway - I noticed that there's a recently updated Google Street View in much of Cleveland. I specifically looked at Detroit/W65, and it does indeed look way better than I remember it. Unfortunately there's almost no pedestrian traffic in the images, probably because they took them on a weekday morning or something. I was hoping to actually see it bustling, and what mix of people it was bustling with.

Yeah, I've been there sometimes when the streets do feel alive in that area. other days, looks exactly like the google street view thing. But it's definitely trending up and not down.

My guess is that while RR is just under 95% White, it is a city with a population almost 5 times that of Chagrin Falls. So instead of a few dozen non-white residents like Chagrin it is around 1,000 non-whites in RR.

Not sure why you constantly feel the need to poison the well regarding Shaker Heights schools and the very real criticisms of the ODE's school measurement system vis-à-vis schools with significant low income enrollment.

Not a bad listing, but not I'm not sure how Brecksville is listed as being comparable to Chagrin Falls. IMO, Chagrin is in its own class.

I definitely agree, most of Brecksville outside of its downtown area is not even close to comparable to Chagrin Falls, while it does have a similar New England feel it just doesn't compare and just isn't as fun to take a walk around either.

I could have lived anywhere in NE OH and I chose to live in Chagrin as I believed there was no better community in Ohio. I put the city at the top of list, not even close.
