if you are counting responses. Meaning, can't go wrong with either place.

I currently live in Strongsville. I have to say I have never felt more at home in a place in all my life. Strongsville has an superb community feel. The recreation center is phenominal. Don't take my word for it, please check it out you will not be disappointed. On top of the abundane of shopping, their are solid churches and plenty of clean fun for your young family to be involved in. The school system is rated excellent with distinction. I noticed a distinct improvement in my child's morale when we moved here. He wants to please his teachers. There is joy in the air here. You will love it. the metropark section is awesome. There are miles of trails including the Chalet, and Wallace Lake. The library is one of the best I've seen.

I second everything written above! I miss the days of playing basketball at the rec center 4 days a week. A great bunch of guys. Those were some great times!

I am from Strongsville.. lived there since 1993 (moved from Cleveland). Great schools: 6 elementary/grade schools, 2 middle schools and 1 private elementary k-8 school (that is where I attended). The high school is HUGE. 2nd biggest high school in ohio next to mentor. Great sports programs with plenty of recreation.

You say you are coming from polaris area well you will feel right at home with soutpark mall that place is huge and keeps expanding.

The thing with Strongsville is they keep adding on to the city. It is constantly growing and that is a good thing. The people are generally nice but it is a yuppie type city so you will run into your house mom ******* and your prick dads.

In the long run Avon Lake in my opinion is no comparison to Stronsville... Westlake is more similar to Strongsville.

But Strongsville is pretty much completely built out these days, no? Even according to the 2010 Census, its fast population growth appears to have leveled off.

South Park Mall is nice, but has increased traffic congestion in the area by quite a bit, something of which the OP should be aware. I would imagine Avon Lake is considerably less congested.

Schools are top-notch, however. I graduated from Strongsville High back in '79, after having to transfer from Cleveland schools at the start of my senior year. Strongsville schools were already excellent back then, in comparison.

I found the attitudes of the people to be a bit socially conservative for my tastes. I don't know if much has changed on that front since then.

I have to respectfully disagree. Strongsville needs to STOP "adding to the city". It is totally over developed and it needs to stop.

Andrew, Avon Lake has been built up a lot too and traffic around I-90 is a nightmare. They've even added a new freeway exit in North Ridgeville to try and relieve some of the insane congestion in Avon Lake.
Avon Lake is Lorain Counties Strongsville. Not Westlake.

If I HAD to choose between the 2 it would be Avon Lake. Strongsville is too cookie cutter imo.

As a Strongsvillian myself I second everything that has been said about the schools, the rec center, metroparks, and of course Southpark Mall.

I went Sts. Joseph and John elementary and then the High School which is huge (my graduating class was pushing 700) and both were really great schools. I believe we just voted on remodeling and expanding one of our Middle schools:
New Middle School Site Picked - Strongsville, OH Patch

The Rec Center is awesome: 3 pools, a track , basketball courts, tennis courts, arcade, the works...

Metroparks cut right through the city and we also have the Chalet which has tobogganing chutes

SouthPark Mall is one of the best on the Westside, better in the winter since its mostly indoors compared to Crocker Park

I also agree with Peregrine's comments about the congestion . What normally would take a 5 minute drive to get on I 71 from Royalton Rd. can take a good half hr because mall traffic is so congested. However, only during the holiday season do you really see the ridiculous traffic. It is manageable and even being an outer ring suburb the commute is not bad, I'd say 20 mins give or take.
