I agree. It IS pretty laughable, since they have already emerged as world cities.

Boston has been a "world city" for hundreds of years.

In fact, I would say ALL of these cities are "world cities".

I suppose Phoenix and Las Vegas are emerging, since ones like Boston and Philly are very established world cities. Other than LV and Phoenix I think these are all fairly established world cities.

....but thats just my opinion. I mean, what makes a world city anyways?

Minneapolis as well.

The only city that I can think of that's going to fall off the world city list is Detroit, if it doesn't pull itself together soon enough.

Take a look at this list:

Global city - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You will see that Atlanta is already a Beta+ World City.

The only U.S. cities ranked above it are New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles (Alpha cities).

Washington and San Francisco are designated/ranked as Beta+ World Cities as well (the highest Beta level--the next level up is Alpha).

I guess that really depends on what a "world city" is. I think Las Vegas, Miami, and New Orleans are arguably more famous than Dallas, Atlanta, Phoenix, and even Houston. Or does being a "world city" have nothing to do with being well known but is about, as people here seem to be implying -- transportation, diversity, and economy? In that case Atlanta, Houston, perhaps Seattle for the cities you listed. If education is included than Boston alrwady is.

What does it take to be a world city? Maybe I'm mistaken but aren't some of these cities already world cities?
