What's also sad is that in New Orleans this ish is acceptable. Most other places it wouldn't be and would produce outrage. So why would the rest of the country be outraged at a murder rate which continues to be the highest sustained of major cities in the country when there is no sense of outrage here in New Orleans. And to think not 3 months ago that progress was being made by law enforcement. Guess it was wishfull thinking.
The year is ending with one of the lowest numbers of homicide cases in recent history in El Paso.
During 2010, there were five homicides, all of which resulted in arrests or were solved.
It was the fewest cases the Police Department's 15-member Crimes Against Persons Unit has had in 20 years.
The murder rate in San Antonio continues to go down. In 2008, the city recorded 119 murders, that number dropped to 99 in 2009. So far this year detectives have investigated 79 murders.
San Antonio Chief of Police William McManus said violent crime is down citywide and it's a direct result of hardworking officers and detectives. He also said the new P.O.P. unit or problem-oriented policing program is reducing crime and the fear of crime.
In the next few weeks Chief McManus will meet with 15 members of his executive staff and a representative from the District Attorneys office. It'll be a one day retreat where they'll review 2010 and come up with new ideas for 2011.
