Say where would you most move and why , if there's something special you would seek or if there's something you would absolutely avoid , etc elaborate...

the poll has multiple choice so you can pick up more than one region.

I've heard some really negative things about West Virginia, so I chose Western North Carolina. I love the Carolinas and think they have a lot of natural beauty. I didn't take South Carolina because you are really getting away from the Appalachians at that point. Inner Virginia would have been my second choice.

I would choose western NC, the great smoky mountains.

I would avoid anything close to Atlanta, personally. I think Atlanta is like an urban cancer, I don't know how long rural living would survive within ~50 miles of its borders.

I would also avoid West Virginia, since the state was always run by coal barons, and it functions more or less as a resource colony.

As far as South Carolina goes, it has the Blue Ridge Mountains, which are considered to be one of the ranges of the Appalachians.

Where are all the other choices?
The Appalachians extend all the way up into Quebec. This poll only has Alabama thru the Virginias.
Way too limited. Couldn't vote.

I'll try and ignore the base insult toward Atlanta and agree that if you want more of a rural experience in your mountain living, north GA is probably the worst choice you could make. Rural life there is quickly vanishing, and I've been up there when looky-lous from the city have the mountain roads clogged up bumper-to-bumper.

In my view Northern Appalachians are not real Appalachians , in fact they also have different names (Allegheny , Adirondacks , Catskill , White Mountains) , I wanted to open a competition between similar regions , and the area from Virginias to Georgia is made of similar states , both naturally and culturally , I wished to know the little details and small differences among these states that are difficult to notice for an outsider (for example I've just got that North Georgia is not rural as someone from outside might have assumed but more a "resort" of Atlanta...) if I had included also the Northern Appalachians it would have been too easy to have the typical response "I voted for New Hampshire because I hate heat and love snow" or "I voted for Georgia because I can't stand the snob sophisticated folk of Upstate NY" well thank you I already knew that

I can see your point. While yes the Appalachians do extend into Québec, when one thinks of "Applachian culture" they usually mean Southern Appalachians. And often it's just a euphamism for hillbilly culture.

At any rate, I love WNC and have a cabin there. It's a great place to spend a summer vacation. But for living, I'd much rather live in East Tennessee.

Where's MD, PA, NY, NJ, VT, CT, MA, VT, NH, and ME?

My vote would go to NY, but the choices provided are too limited for me to vote.

I like east Tennessee, in general. I have to say I cannot tolerate Gatlinburg, and I'm so-so regarding Knoxville. Knoxville might be more fun if it weren't clearly demarcated as "enemy territory" for me.
