Actually many indicators of real estate and tax data would suggest 3 of 4 counties historically in the Philly MSA will be back. Plus a houston poster (HTown) shared a link where the census believes they underestimated the philly proper population estimate by 100k in 2008. This would put the MSA at somewhere between 6.7 and 6.8 million ahead of Dallas (Yes all the people have been here there was just small misses on the commuter rates in 2000) in at #4, where it basically has been for 50 years. Though DFW would overtake in the next ten years, potentially Houston in 15 or so.
At CSA if Mercer comes back on the final data Philly and NYC MSAs would be combined to one CSA

Kidphilly I wasn't talking about the information you were providing. I was talking about information that another poster provided on another thread. Kidphilly I know your stuff is pretty on point.
I won't go into specific detail as to why (unless somebody beats it out of me), but here's a few:
Austin
Atlanta
Phoenix
Miami
Columbus, OH
Indianapolis
All of these cities have gotten too much hype at some point in the past and I just thought the hype was undeserved, especially when it was compared to greater skylines and there was actually significant debate about it.

I do not remember Phoenix EVER getting too much hype about its skyline. In fact, many posters criticize the skyline or complain that it's too small. While I agree that it needs much help for its size, it doesn't have the worst skyline, especially when you factor in the buildings north of downtown on Central that are often left out of photos of the Phoenix skyline.

the only difference is the proximity what 1/4th to 1/5th the distance and more people in the 100 miles in between (actually the closest border of NYC and Philly are only 46 miles as the crow flies) than the whole state of Texas, yes good comparator
and how so, Mercer in 2000 had nearly 3 times the interplay with the Philly MSA yet someone in the Trenton OMB office made the decision because it met both the Philly and NYC CSA criteria (in 1999 it met Philly MSA criteria btw) and the office got a nearly 10% pay increase as a result
I voted Boston. Many people say it has a very pretty skyline but i find it very bland and ugly. There are some very flattering angles of its CBD but overall i don't find it attractive. However the Jhancock building is quite beautiful and ahead of its time for when it was built.
