Anyway, back to steak. Don't go to Gene and Georgetti's if you expect excellent food. There are lots of better options here.
Have you ever heard of "Chicken Vesuvio"? I think that's one of Gene and Georgetti's special dishes. Supposedly, it's a regional speciality, local to Chicago. I was considering that as well. Is that something that can be found in your other recommendation, N9NE?

Without looking at the menu to be sure, I doubt N9NE has chicken vesuvio. It's more of a "classic" dish and N9NE puts a more contemporary spin on its menu. You're more apt to find it at "classic" places like Gene & Georgetti's or other Italian restaurants that don't necessarily specialize in steak. If you're jonesin' for this dish, check out this link.

Never really thought of Chicken Vesuvio as a regional dish, honestly though, that is a dish I would never order in a restaurant; family version is better than anywhere I had (granted I have probably only ordered it a few times). Overall, Gene and Georgetti's is very overrated, there are much better steak places to go to in Chicago.

Generally speaking, Its hard to pick what city has the best steakhouses, for two reasons imo:

1) Many of the good ones are chains, and can be found in any large city (Mortons, Smith and Wolinsky's, Ruths Chris, ets...)

2) Like somebody else said, The key to a good steak is in the aging, not necesarily being close to the source, so many cities can have good steakhouses.

For the Record my favorite in Chicago is Gibsons
