I need to credit my photo of the Paris Metro on the previous page to Minato Ku of the Skyscrapercity Forums. For some reason it won't let me edit the previous post.
LIRR and Metro north are sort of different. Metro north has like an electrified cable running along the tracks above it, and the train connects to it. I don't know what it's called. You can see it in the pic. LIRR is electrified, but it has a 3rd rail like the subways have:
The Los Angeles Metro/ Greater Southern California commuter rail METROLINK serves workers that mainly work in downtown Los Angeles or near rail lines/stations. It is a niche form of transportation here, not the dominant form, but it works for some people. It has the 7th highest passenger ridership of a commuter rail line in the USA.
However Metrolink is also one of the most violent commuter rail lines in the country. We have had several horrific accidents involving cars on the tracks and last year's horrendous crash between a Metrolink train and a freight train head on killing 25 and injuring 135. The story of one woung woman who moved to the L.A. area from Zambia showed the struggle some of those 135 injured still go through was actually on the cover of the L.A. Times today. Chatsworth train crash survivor has a long road back - Los Angeles Times
Lots of improvements need to be made to make Metrolink safer, especially considering it shares rail with freight trains.
I like the 5th photo, with the hills, and across the river are projects.
Thats Marble Hill. The hills across the river with just trees is the north yip of Manhattan and on the other side, with the projects is legally part of Manhattan but in the bronx.

I heard of marble hill. It's funny how yo can see boats sailing and nature, right across the river from drugs and poverty. Reminds me of west palm beach LOL.
