Out of these cities chosen, which of the cities have a better nightlife, public transportation, restaurants, shopping, scenery, colleges, is better for young pros/college students, museums, architecture, diversity, etc??
Even though I voted for Philadelphia I'm moving to suburban Washington, DC. I think I'd be much happier living in Center City Philly than I would be living in NoVA, but we'll see. I'm trying to keep an open mind to suburbia.
Nightlife: Tie (More upscale clubs in DC but better bars in Philly)
Public Transportation: DC (Cleaner, efficient and overall better) Septa is cool too.
Restaurants: Tie (Upscale Restaurants DC) (Neighborhood Joints Philly)
Food: Philly
Shopping: Tie (If you count burbs too)

Colleges: Philly but DC is close. Villanova, Penn, LaSalle, Temple, St Joes vs. Georgetown, George Washington, Howard, Maryland, American, Catholic
College Students: Tie
Young Professionals: DC
Museums: DC (Nothing compares to the Smithsonian) plus 20 other museums such as the Newseum, Spy Museum, etc....
Architecture: DC but Philly is close
Diversity: DC
People: Philly
Big City Feel: Philly

Philadelphia for me. If I decide to move out of the NYC area and what to stay close but still want an urban feel. Philadelphia metro area would be my top pick.
I would choose Philly, it has a more big city feel which is something that is important to me. But I think DC is also excellent and would not mind living there.
I like your list except for nightlife. No way Philly's nightlife can touch DC's. They have buses coming from Philly taking people to DC on Friday evenings just to go to clubs. Plus there is more stuff to do in DC!

Perhaps people are busing to DC for nightlife because its too crowded in Center City?
Philadelphia has a thriving nightlife that runs the gamut from cosmopolitan, club scene, byob, neighborhood bars, college hangouts. 220 restaurant and bars and 60 night clubs just in Center City alone. Thats not to mention University City,Manayunk,Chestnut Hill, and local hoods.
Old City on Friday and Sat night alot of times resembles the Vegas Strip. The Rittenhouse area is as cosmopolitan as any area in NYC or London.
I'm not saying Washington DC doesnt have a great nightlife but what I am saying is that you are undervaluing Philadlephia nightlife immensely.
