I don't see the westcoast in the midwest. I see the eastcoast in it. The only westcoast I see in the midwest, is the high Mexican population in Chicago, and the gang presence in Chicago. That's about it.
I guess it's just the whole, industrial, cold-weather, bricks, urban, thing going on in the midwest, that makes it seem alot more eastcoast orientated. When we think of the westcoast we think of beaches, deserts(in the southern part), hills, mountains, palm trees(in the southern part), Hot weather, newer cities. But the pacific northwest is more similar to the midwest then the southern half of the westcoast, but still WAY different then the midwest. The Pacific Northwest has hills, mountains, beaches, and newer cities, sort of like the southern half of the westcoast but without deserts.
I've always felt the Midwest has more of an east coast feel. Granted, I haven't been to the West Coast in Oregon or Washington so I don't know whether they resemble the Midwest.
"Is the west coast more like the Midwest or the East Coast?"
Coastal California definately doesn't remind me at all of the Midwest or East Coast.
