Question Why is California better than Hawaii???

I see that almost everyone says California is way better than Hawaii, but why? No ones gives any real reasons, and since I'm moving to Hawaii in a few months. I'd really like some reasons why California is so preferred (not just the weather). If anyone has lived in both states, your input is the most relevant and I have never visited to CA or HI. THANK YOU!

I prefer California since it has a much greater variety of things to see and do and California doesn't have all that humidity...I also like the fact that in California you can drive to places like Vegas or to other states.

I haven't lived in Hawaii, but... I'm going to go out on a limb and assume it's because CA is about 15x larger in landmass, has a much larger population, substantially more job opportunities, etc.

None of this is to say I think ill of Hawaii. My brother lived in Honolulu for ten years and loved it; I've though numerous times about moving there and have been thinking about it more again, lately.

What my brother and his wife cited as reasons for leaving Hawaii was that after they got off the naval base, they found that a lot of Hawaii natives (not Native Hawaiians per se, just people who were from there) were less-than-welcoming to them; it was really hard to make friends with anyone who wasn't also in the Navy or a Navy wife. Their kids did fine, but they wanted more.

Another friend of mine from LA moved there for about the same amount of time, and he said that while he loved the laidback culture, the Honolulu nightlife, the nature, etc., he also had a hard time with the locals.

That being said... I've known plenty of people from Hawaii - I was raised between Seattle and Boston, and the Seattle area seems to be the first stop for many Hawaiians when they move to the mainland... I found them to generally be nicer than most of the Seattlites around... so who knows?

Either way, I haven't known many people who have had a hard time making friends here in CA. It's such a huge state, you have big, dense cities... small country towns... family-friendly suburbs... there's probably a place for you here, one way or the other.
