Ward 8 has tons of public housing complexes that are at war with each other. There is more public housing in Ward 8 than anywhere else in DC proper. Until they raze them and give the residents housing choice vouchers, these issues will persist. The victims and perpetrators know each other. It’s not random people.

The homicides in Ward 7, Ward 6, Ward 5, and Ward 1 are also from people living in public housing for the most part. The razing and redevelopment of them would change those neighborhoods over night.

Ward 2, Ward 3, and Ward 4 have almost zero public housing which coincides with their homicide rate. Ward 6 and Ward 1 will probably go back to normal next year. The majority of the city doesn’t really have a homicide issue. Ward 5 will get better once Brookland Manor is razed. It’s happening in phases so it will be a while.

NYC has gone two individual weeks without a murder, down 12% YOY.

Boston has gone two consecutive 30 day periods without a murder, down 10% YOY.

Philadelphia's murder rate is down 30% YOY

Northeast cities are having a better year this year than last.

Baltimore is at 232 homicides. This time last year it was more or less at 300, so it’s seen a ~25% reduction.

DC has it beat in raw numbers but not at parity homicide rates as DC still has another 100k more in population
