I think this list would be much more useful by urban area or metro area. Fortune makes it ridiculously difficult to easily compile that info using their website, however.

Seems pretty significant that Atlanta is ahead of San Francisco, a city regularly touted as a world business capital.

Atlanta is of course smaller by population, and I doubt its larger area has anything to do with being able to host more companies.

Exactly. Boeing headquarters in Chicago had like what, 200 jobs? Most of the engineers are in Seattle and DC. Corporate headquarters are mainly just a game of where I can have the least tax liability, but the people in C-D love to mentally masturbate to that.

I'd be more interested in seeing a percentage share of high-paying corporate jobs in these cities. I would wager places like Boston and even San Diego do a hell lot better than places like Houston.

Edit: Just realized this is about Fortune 1000 companies not 500.

Of course no one has mentioned it, because this city is mostly ignored on this forum, but-

I love seeing Omaha punching above it’s weight (as it usually does) in measurable’s such as this.

It's certainly quite advantageous to host corporate headquarters, but I don't see the likes of Austin, Raleigh, or Salt Lake City listed and yet they are kicking all kinds of butt economically.

theres a difference between being hot and being established.

That said, yes corporate headquarters aren’t what they used to be. And with WFH, this will be even more so moving forward. With today’s technology and infrastructure, companies can realistically have workers everywhere and get things done at real time.

Houston is#3. I think it has 25 F500 companies. DFW is 4th.

Massachusetts isn't the only state that doesn't list all the cities that have headquarters that make the cut. All the states are like that.

The intriguing questions for me is states like Ohio with that many companies and States like Washington with so few. For a while now the image of Ohio has been the rust belt narrative and that of Washington has been that of corporate leader. So I want expecting Ohio to show so well and Washington to show so poorly.
Im aware, I can read.

My question was a general inquiry. Thank you for your response though

Anyhow, I don't have time to do a MSA or CSA list right now, but here is the F1000s by state and city proper, if you find I have made errors please let me know.
