China hasn't the monopoly on having the best Mountains. What about Nepal,Bhutan,Pakistan,India...
The himalayan mountains rise from the Terai plains ( 200 feet elevation) on the nepalese side.
They rise from the Tibet Plateau (16000 feet elevation) on the Chinese side.
Imo they look much bigger on the nepalese side.

I like my mountains to have a north woods forest cover, including birch, sugar maple, etc for beautiful fall color. That eliminates everything west of the Mississippi. For that reason, in my opinion, the best mountains are in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Honorable mention would be other areas throughout the Appalachians.

What the heck??? New York and West Virginia are options, but not Montana, Alaska, Wyoming, Oregon and Washington? Come on, now.

I'll take any mountain in the West. They're gorgeous.

That's funny, I thought I spent 3 years living in the Sierra Nevada--I must have been a rugged pioneer living in uninhabitable mountains along with several thousand other people.

The Sierra Nevada mountains are for little girls compared to the Himalayas.

Between the months of late August and early May, I reside in the Santa Monica Mountains. I don't know how you came up with that conclusion.

Why because they are taller? This isn't a penis measuring contest.

In terms of aesthetics the mountains of New York and West Virginia look a lot better than the whole lot of those brown/dark and dreary mountains of the southwest. The northwest though usually doesn't have that problem.

Who said anything about height?

This is opinionated. Clearly I made that comment because I find the mountains in those various states more appealing than those in New York and West Virginia. I respect your opinion.

"One thing I will say is almost all mountains out west are uninhabitable for the most part, not the case for the eastern mountains," was what I was responding to. Plenty of people live in the mountain regions of the west.

And yes, the Himalayas are more massive than the Sierra Nevada(which has nothing to do with this thread). Have you summited anything in the Himalayas? (or the Sierra Nevada)
