In the past 20 years Philadlelphia has come a long way and arguably has a more vibrant dynamic downtown than Boston. Philadlephias downtown has really closed the gap on Bostons and dont be surprised if it begins to distance itself from Boston in the next 10-20 years.
As far as the neighborhoods. Boston being much smaller, much more insular, much more racist held up much better over the years than Philadlephia who took the complex issue of integration head on.
Maybe if Philadlephia took Bostons bigotted hateful stance it possibly may be more financially fit and aesthetically pleasing but Philadlephias heart was in the right place, Philadlephia has always been a leader in humanity and civil rights.
