Whoa hold on here chief.

I respect Boston and wish Philadlephia had emulated alot of its positive attributes over the course of its life span but most historians will tell you Philadlephia was significantly more important in this countries creation.

Colonial Philadlephia was the political, financial and cultural backbone of the colonies. US democracy was created in Philadlephia for a good reason, it was the lynchpin/keystone of the colonies. While Bostonians used their provincial isolated moblike tantrums to conspire against the British, the powers to be in Philadlephia were keenly developing a successful plan to once and for all rid the colonies of the British.

NYC was the muscle
Boston was the brawn
Philadlephia was the brains behind this operation.
Washington DC an inconsequential swamp gets to enjoy the rewards.Illl never figure that one out.
ROTF! Especially the highlighted areas lol!

Its interesting to note that a certain "conspirator" named Mr John Adams of Massachustts met a certain Philadelphian named Benjamin Franklin who was "keenly developing a successful plan"! The rest is history!

BTW - the British captured Boston, NYC and Philadelphia at different times during the war. They burnt down Washington DC in the War of 1812! No one ever said the British were stupid LOL!

The British evacuated Boston in 1776 and never attacked again. It was on St. Patrick's day; Boston schools get the day off.

I realize that that is "in the war" but it's pretty early on. And from the moment the war began the area around Boston was free, just took a year for the city itself.

i do agree that the economy is better in boston but u must remember boston has about half the population of philly so i think the economy still is pretty equal. tho i think if boston was as big as philly the economy would probably be worse but my decision could be unfair considering in my whole life ive only spent 2-3 weeks in philly (yet it was a slightly bad region of south philly where my cuzin lived) and i have lived in boston and outskirts of it all of my life n all poverty stricken regions (i.e. roxbury, dorchester, chelsea, malden) also i believe for its size boston has a pretty equal amount of crime

....if I ever asked a dozen Americans which city they thought of first when discussing the American Revolution, I feel safe that the majority would say "Boston"....and I'm not Beantown's biggest booster, even if I live here.

But, even though I don't work for the Boston Chamber of Commerce, I will say that I feel Boston offers a better quality of like than Philadelphia, in general.Although Boston is more expensive, it's more attractive ( to put it mildly), has the best medical facilities in the world, has the greatest concentration of colleges in the nation, a good public transit system with subways and commuter rails, and is surrounded by tremendous natural scenery (the lakes and forests of VT, NH and ME).

Philly has a sense of history and tradition, and good universities, but, honestly, the overriding image of the much of the city is one of poverty and squalor. North Philly, west Philly past UPenn are simply awful, and even South Philly won't win any awards, either. Block after block, mile after mile of dilapidated rowhouse neighborhoods, many boarded up, bombed out and otherwise just uninhabitable, many times worse than the Roxbury and Dorchester neighborhoods of Boston. Sorry, but this is reason enough for me to say "NO" to Philly.

My honest answer...

Default That's fine by me..

.....keep the squalor down there, then.

And you wonder why Philadelphia isn't a "destination" city.....

If they can lower down the crime, Philly. But until then I rather live in Boston.
