How does SF get on this list and not KC? I don't think of SF at all as a jazz center.
NYC is a great place to listen to live music, but it is notoriously tough for the musicians. The jazz gigs there mostly pay squat - very difficult to make a living.

New Orleans is the number one jazz resort, mainly because that's where it was born. And I would place Memphis ahead of Chicago and New York for both of those as well. As far as major cities in the country go for music (jazz and blues), my top picks for cities would be New Orleans, Memphis, Kansas City, St. Louis, Chicago, Detroit, and Omaha as the tops in these areas.
