Since no one has a job for life (at least at the corporate level) any more, you can expect to change jobs every 5 to 10 years. With that in mind, I would suggest going to Mobile and earning $85,000 seems like a no brainer. The cost of living in Mobile paired with that salary means that after 5 to 10 years you can have a quite a bit of money saved up.

Besides, fun can be had in Mobile and as with any city it's all about what you make of it. If it's not to your liking though, New Orleans and the white sand beaches of Florida are only a short drive away.

Mobile, AL without a doubt. Nothing against Philly but it's too similar to where I am now, I want to live further than an hour and 30 minutes away.

PLUS that 85,000 in Mobile would get you WAY further than 65,000 in Philly.

It depends on what you are looking for.

Philly offers everything a major city can offer. They have all the major pro sports teams. It has some of the best comfort food and Italian food in the nation. There are tons of museums, a few zoos, some parks/recreation. Philly has excellent nightlife. It is generally walkable.

Mobile is very southern. There is a tiny downtown along the water. There isn't much nightlife; what there is is very spread out. You have to drive everywhere. No pro sports teams. Very insular. Not too many people from elsewhere outside the immediate AL/MS/north FL vicinity. Not very walkable.
