Damn, not really a lot and I'm better off staying right here in Texas. Find me a nice apartment within inner loop Houston, buy a car and put the rest in savings.

I've always imagined that if I was rich; I'd live way below my means. I see no point in splurging and buying large houses, yachts, cars ,jewelry and more. What a waste.

invest it in a biscuit company, it would be much better than biscuitville, the freshest butterymilkiest biscuits you have ever had the pleasure of tantalizing your tastebuds with, people would come from the hills of chattanooga to the sea in charleston when the prevailing winds escorted my biscuity aroma into their nose.

aha, but this would only be the first 250k, the other 250k, I would gladly give to the amphibious frog from northern georgia, otherwise known as Georgia Frog. From then on they would be my arch nemesis, an evil biscuit lord if you will, trying to make their own version of biscuits, but cutting corners, using inferior buttermilk, not getting up early enough. If they get up at 4am, I will get up at 3am and become a biscuit emperor, in fact, the churches will all close down once people get a taste of my biscuit and they will declare me their new god and bow to me.

I'd be pragmatic with half of it and frivoulous with the other half

$200K on a house in New Mexico. $50K new vehicle and other knick knacks
$250K Traveling the world.

Life is short. When I die I can't take the house, vehicle, or other material goods with me. But all the experience of fulfilling my dreams of traveling would be a life well lived.

OK here's my plan

buy an older brick building in Clendenin where I live, and remodel it into a deli/bakery named Chriscross's. Make the top floor a really nice apartment for myself!

Haha, I first read $5 million, then saw it was $500K and honestly thought "oh...that's it?".

As if I even have $500K to possibly think about. I'd probably pay the house off and throw the rest in savings. Wouldn't prompt me to move though.

Default No Open At Work

Easy:

http://tinyurl.com/645jqzj (broken link)

We knew the city had issues, but we're just beginning to discover the full scope of the issues. They might have some rock-n-roll left in 'em after all.

This is not fiction. Old Detroit school board president was discovered to be a functional illiterate when some disgruntled person in his office started leaking e-mails to the local paper.

This, of course, went viral, but was somewhat overshadowed by the Kwame Kilpatrick house party scandal, which was going down (ahem) at about the same time.

A member of Detroit's city council - who belongs to MENSA - stated that she voted for him even though she knew he couldn't read because it could potentially have a positive impact upon the city's students, or that "they might find him easier to relate to" than some aloof person whose IQ might - for example - get them into Mensa, or pretty much anything else above and beyond "do fries go with that?"

Through it all, the prez refused to resign (he couldn't spell any of the words required for a letter of resignation), and the city (whomever it is that takes care of such business - don't they have some bitter, schoolmarmy, fat-secretary type stomping around just for these kinds of situations?) refused to fire him. Economy's bad, how long will it take him to land a job, yada yada.

And then it was discovered that - in addition to all of the above - the school board prez had developed the hobby (other than reading at a 2nd grade level) - perhaps to stave off boredom during closed-door (hopefully) meetings with the school superintendent (different person - a woman, it should also be noted) was touching himself in inappropriate ways, fairly regularly. "Superintendent Teresa $$$$$$$ accusing Mathis of touching himself during a recent meeting. She called it his “usual habit” during one-on-one meetings. She said she tries to ignore it."

When it comes to knowing and respecting Detroit, and it's ultimate badassness as DEtroit Rock City, and what all might be implied and inferred by such a descriptive, we've only hit the tip of the iceberg, and Gene Simmons likewise doth not possess the mental faculties to lead us all unto the light. Really. When you - as an individual or as a city - start to get soooooo down it starts looking like up, then it's time to but a $50 house, a couple bottles of that Orange Driver wine that looks like something you pour down your car radiator, call every garage rock band you knew from college, and start staging an ongoing and possibly infinite series of "rent parties" which continue
  • until the house is paid for
  • the city is revitalized
  • you're dead from multiple drug intoxication
  • you wake up and suddenly discover you're the mayor
Kinda like the Lester Bangs story about asking the wino, fresh out of jail, what he'd been arrested for this time. Wino actually gets this pensive look in his eyes for about 3 seconds, and shook his head, and drawled "For being ahead of my time, men."

Buy a survivalist cabin in the backwoods of Idaho, sit there, and wait for all heck to break loose. Also pick up some spare RPGs.
