Backsburg, Virginia vs. Morgantown, West Virginia
(both home to large universities)

Which small city has

-better college campus
-more things to do
-more culture
-better natural setting
-better downtown
-better college sports
-better architecture
-better overall atmosphere

and plus what ever you can come up with

I've never been to Blacksburg but Morgantown is a nice little city and probably one of the best parts of West Virginia on a few things. Another nice thing about Morgantown is that you're only 90 minutes at most away from Pittsburgh if you're ever in the mood for a night in a larger metro area. The closest large metros to Blacksburg are Richmond and Greensboro which aren't even that large and the drive wouldn't be that doable to just go up for a night and drive back to campus.

I'll third Morgantown. It's proximity to a large city (Pittsburgh) would win it for me.

From what I hear, Roanoke is the bigger city for those in Blacksburg.

What I like about Morgantown is the unique layout of the campus. There isn't any large open lawns at WVU because the downtown campus is on a hillside and the buildings stack up on top of each other.

I was more looking at big cities and larger metros. There are more people in the city of Pittsburgh than in the Roanoke metro and Allegheny County has 4 times more people than in the metro. I'm not trying to talk down Roanoke, but that isn't what I really consider a large city or metro at all.

Morgantown. Shadyside. PRTS, Old Architecture. Freewheeling attitude.

Blacksburgh is nice, but has a very "Military-Campus" feel to it.

Location wise Both campuses are very similar.
