Right now I would say Nashville looks more attractive than Memphis to black folks, and memphis also comes off as a city filled with people who speak poorly of it.

I met women from Memphis before who told me if I want to experience TN then head over to Nashville.
Yeah Black-owned businesses is an area where Memphis does well:

The low cost of living and authentic culture are also positives, and it has certainly had more Black representation within the ranks of its civic leadership over the years than Nashville. Memphis is a place where you can get in on the ground floor before the boom happens while it's still somewhat easy to do.

Right now, it's Atlanta. It is the capital of rap music right now, and has a black mayor.

Memphis is home to Orange Mound, the first african american neighborhood built by and for African Americans in the United States.

It is home to the Blues and Stax Records.

It is home to Memphis style Barbecue.

It is home to Three 6 Mafia, the sole academy award winning hip hop group.

It is home to Le Moyne Owen College, a HBCU.

Not to mention it has highest percentage of black people outside of Detroit on this list.

Just because it isn't prosperous like Atlanta doesn't mean its not historically more important to the story of black Americans than Atlanta is.

I like hip hop but the whole pop culture thing isn't as important. Who's more well rounded? Let's delve deeper in this thing. Hip hop artists are only have surface level Entertainment Tonight influence. Where are the top scientists, business men/women, writers, historians, etc at?

Some of these replies appear to be facetious and racist.

Thank you. I've stated a similar theme many many many times ago about focusing on Hip hop entertainment as an indicator.

The data for this has already been posted in the thread. DC overwhelmingly leads all cities for black people with professional careers.

Then DC takes it. I just recently came back into this thread and saw the "hip-hop and melanated mayor" comment. That's a very shallow way to look at it.

Not directed at you, MD: Can't really build an actual community by with by being the entertainment of other people. A farmer is more important than a rapper, as well as the designer/inventor, so on and so forth. (I'm sure this was already brought out).

It should be DC but everything flows through ATL-that why its miles ahead of everywhere else

It has more appeal to everyday black people while DC attracts only the cream of the crop really. That's an exaggeration but you know what I mean. Atlanta isnt lacking for black professionals anyway.
