Doesn't surprise me much considering I live in Austin. But yah for its size, that is pretty crazy. Austin is mainly a hub for social and MMO's. Pretty much every major MMO company has an office or is HQ'd here and the GDC (Basically every mmo company gets together) is actually happening right now.
I also wish arcades would make a comeback but the trends of Online gaming is killing it. There are a few arcades being kept alive in Cali, Houston, ATL, and NYC though.
Seattle is a pretty strong contender. You have Microsoft and Nintendo of America based out of Redmond, then you have studios like Bungie, Valve, Zipper, NCSoft, Sucker Punch..and then a lot of casual studios like PopCap, Zipper, Wild Tangent, etc..Also Penny Arcade Expo is becoming one of the biggest gaming conventions in the country. Digipen Institute of Technology is probably the most prestigious "video game" college in the country, at least in the eyes of the game industry.
That gamedev map shows 72 entries for Seattle, so not sure why you left it off your top 5 list.
Seattle has two of the largest video game companys in the world and usa, xbox and nintendo of america is based out of seattle as is 72 other video game companys.
I know EA Sports has a studio in Orlando, called EA Sports Tiburon. That's where they make all the Madden and NCAA Football games.
