Should I move from Milwaukee, WI to Florida or Washington DC? I am 35 with no kids and I am looking for something different!

First off what are you looking for in your move, DC and FL are completely different in every way. Where in FL are you looking at very diverse cities in FL your question is pretty broad your going to have to narrow your choices a bit before people can really chime in and give you advise.

I would say visit each place a few times, and if FL then esp visit in the summer, before deciding.

Very hard to answer your question without more details.....not to mention what industry you work in or hope to work in.

Personally, I'd go with Miami...and I say that as someone who lived in Wash, D.C. for a few years. Of course, that is just my personal preference for a warm climate near or on an ocean.

A few quick thoughts:
1. Miami is cheaper esp. housing (although wages are lower);
2. Traffic is more tolerable in Miami (but DC does have one of the best transit systems in the nation).
3. Winters are VERY nice in Miami (though compared to Wisconsin, D.C. is the tropics).
4. Summers are UNPLEASANT in both places.
5. For culture DC is VERY GOOD and hard to beat.
6. I see both cities as very livable:

- D.C. is compact and has good transit and a very walkable urban culture.

- Miami has a nice climate and a laid back beach vibe and some emerging urban culture of its own (downtown, Miami Design District, etc).

Of course, I've ony visited Miami so take my comments with a grain of salt. And I do live in Los Angeles which is quite large and expensive and wrote the book on traffic jams so perhaps I look at Miami through rose-colored glasses. Again, I am happy where I am but if I were picking between Wash, D.C. and Miami, I'd try Miami.
