Just wondering: when deciding on a place to live or visit, how many of you use the Street View with Google Maps? For myself, I find it indispensable because you can explore the town almost like a local does. As far as small towns/cities go, the prettiest I've seen would have to be Morro Bay, CA. The worst? Lordsburg, NM.

I used it a bunch when I was looking for a house in Kansas when I still lived in Tennessee! It's great at giving you an idea about a neighborhood before you actually see it in person.

Stayed at a motel in Lordsburg once... Not the nicest looking town, but the people were nice and we ate at a pretty good little restaurant. But i love google street view. I have used it to find businesses, or plan trips even (knowing which lanes to be in and what to look for, etc..). It's a great resource, and i'm glad to see that it is constantly expanding and being updated.

I like Google Maps Street View and spend hours sometimes just looking at places I've never been.

I even look at former places I used to live. However, sometimes the address Google assigns to a location is way off.

Street View is wonderful; it's one of my favorite websites. It's very convenient to know your way around a place without even setting foot there. It will be very useful once I get into the planning stage of moving next year.

Its amazing that the Google camera van makes it out to these obscure places- That'll be as close as I ever need to see Lordsburg thank you very much!

I concur, it is invaluable- I explore all over just to get a feel for an area, especially if I may visit.

I love street view; it's one of my primary procrastination tools! However, I hate when it takes images of places in the winter. It did that to Lubbock, and everything is dead and brown.

google street view doesn't really do most places in justice, in my opinion. it looks so grainy

It would be nice if Google to could go back and redo some places with no snow and with the high-res cameras. There's just no comparison in the quality between the old and the new.
And of course just because a town "looks bad" on Google doesn't make it a bad place.
I wish Street View would make it to the Big Island of Hawaii.
TallyDude, I agree - since I can't travel right now, this is the next best thing! And it's free
