Hey guys,

Anyone else think it is time fro Macy's and Kroger's to build new headquarters in Cincinnati? More so Kroger's than Macy's. I like the Macy's building other than I feel like its to short for its design. But the Kroger's building in my opinion is way outdated. It would be nice if these companies built somewhere in the central business district and had at least enough height that you could see them from 75 when you are coming down the cut in the hill.

Kroger building is horrible. So bland and cheap looking. I'd love for them to build a new building. Of course, even if they did they could still build something bland (IE the new GE building).

Yes, they would need to build something that stands out. It does not have to be 800ft high, although that would be nice, but even a 20-30 story tower would definately add to the skyline. Also build it more towards the Millennium hotel so it will balance out the skyline.

I agree they aren't the most attractive HQ's around, but the second they start thinking of building new, they are also going to start thinking of building elsewhere, or as a bare minimum, millions and millions of dollars in tax incentives.

I sincerely hope they stay put. At least until there is federal tax incentive reform, which with some luck might happen in the next presidential administration if the case could be made and the proper buttons pushed (like the labor unions and tea party, for instance).

Sure, whenever it is worth it for them to do so without heavy subsidy from the public.

Nope, Kroger in particular. I have been very proud how they have been running their business on the skinney. That is what we need, more business run on the skinney. Macy I don't think is long for Cincinnati so I could care less what they do other than build a new HQ in Cincy then run the business from elsewhere.

There is little point in building a new building if the current building is not functionally obsolete. And one has to consider what would happen to the existing building if it were vacated? Would it be sold or demolished? Remodeled for new tenants?

I don't know. Downtown Cincinnati doesn't have an overwhelming office space demand, at least not that I've seen. Residential, sure, but '60's and '70's era office towers aren't exactly considered great for residential conversions. Plus that would be an overwhelming number of units.

It's really in everyone's best interest if Kroger and Macy's stay exactly the way they are when it comes to their HQ's. Unless Cranley wants to give up that Hopple Street Tax Wasting Viaduct....
