Don't let the people in the suburbs give Cincy a bad name, Tom. We all know better than that. Just like another poster has said, Cincinnati residents passed this thing not once, but twice and it is happening. All the people who don't support it can continue to sit there and whine all they want, too bad for them. The suburbs can continue to build their extremely expensive multi-lane freeways to no where. Meanwhile, watch dozens of commercial retail plazas sit vacant.

A major amenity that attracts people to areas is good transit options. I spent years living w/o a car in NYC. Taking the subway saved me both time and money. Then there is the Long Island Railroad, and Metro North. I reverse commuted on both of these for lengthy periods of time. Again, they saved me time and money. My commute was usually around an hour and a half using the subway to transfer to LIRR or Metro North. Rail made my life easier, saved time and money. I loved it and miss it.

Not to mention you can usually nap on the trains, that was a major plus.

It's not that I am anti-car. Or an environmentalist or idealist. It's just I have lived both car dependent and without a car. Living without a car is the way to go if you can do it. Can you even imagine living w/o a car? I mean it's really hard to do in Cincinnati. Should I move back to NYC at some point, one of the first things I will do is sell my car. You know what's ironic? It may be that I decide to stay in Cincinnati because my son loves SCPA so much and is getting a great education. There are comparable schools in NYC but getting into them makes CPS look like a walk in the park.

Cincinnati had the right idea installing a subway. It's a tragic loss that it was abandoned.
I guess I could have multiquoted you. My bad .

Tom, you are probably one of the most real posters on here, you say it like it is, I like that. I honestly get a good laugh reading peoples' posts about rail transit and they talk down on it like they know it. Yet, when they post and add these ridiculous comments, it shows they know NOTHING about rail. When I went on my ventures along the eastern half of the country before classes started in late August, I flew out of Hopkins International and guess what... didn't need to take my car to the airport and pay for having my car sit there for weeks on end. I left my car in my neighborhood, took the rapid downtown, caught the red line to the airport and flew off. There are so many more advantages to rail than just investment and development. Not only that, but I don't have to pay for gas, maintenance on cars isn't exactly cheap, and I don't have to fight traffic. Those is just a few of the perks. The people who bash rail think they know it, or may even have used it a few times, but don't know how it integrates into an urban lifestyle.

If there's one thing I miss about commuting via public transportation, it's this.

Generalizing again ... tsk tsk.

More than generalizing, pontificating.
