I think the late '50s and very early '60s ones were over the top. The ones from the '40s and till the mid-'50s, as well as the ones from mid-60's to the mid-70s were elegant. The ones from the '80s- so ugly. The ones from the '90s- pretty sad .

Yes, you are very astute, but I think most people, even car enthusiasts don't necessarily realize Imperial was its own make.
