Are you using crd as to mean a"common-rail diesel"?
a crd can and is turbocharged.

They use a VM diesel motor.

The diesel car market has gone through a period of unprecedented growth. All across Europe, diesel car penetration grew in the past few years to record levels as drivers switched from conventional gasoline engines to vehicles fitted with a new generation of diesel power units.
Long gone are the days of the slow, high capacity, naturally aspirated engines which powered family cars twenty years ago. Talk now is of diesel cars which qualify as performance car in their own right. Every time a new car is launched everybody picks the diesel version as the prime choice. As such, diesel engine car penetration is over 50% across the European market.
In the last 15 years, VM has been developing a new range of diesel engines. The result is a complete family of 4valve-per- cylinder engines, with both3-4 cylinder in line and 6 cylinder, V- shape architectures, fitted with the latest high pressure common rail technology, complying with the most demanding emission regulations and meeting the best fuel economy record in the market.VM Motori S.p.A.

back to the egr.
Disconnecting the MAF sensor. The only purpose this sensor serves is airflow feedback for the EGR system. Unplug the MAF sensor and the computer shuts off the EGR since it can't monitor it. The result? Better driveability, mileage, and no exhaust soot being dumped back into the intake. The check engine lights comes on, but there is no limp mode or degradation.
