Ha, I did not grow up Catholic, but I knew that!
I had a friend and coworker who was a devout Catholic who could never answer my questions about RCC beliefs. One day we walked over at lunchtime to the bookstore attached to the Catholic Church in the neighborhood, and I bought a book by Catholic apologist Kark Keating. It was written for Catholics to learn about their religion in order to respond if fundamentalists asked them questions about Catholic theology. I read it, and then I gave it to her. It answered a lot of my questions.
That had to be in the late 80s.
