I would say addictive in a positive way! I do strive to have time in the Word most days. I don't always make it but when I do it's like a shot in the arm of goodness! Also the things I read are confirmed throughout my day or in the days to come. I do so love the Word of God.
If by addiction you mean;
"an every increasing supply, for an ever decreasing return", I'd say well sort of. Seems I have to spend a little more time digging and refecting to get those euphoric eureka's.
In the very begining of my "walk" they came faster and easier.
BTW: that's just me. and the more I understand Christianity, the more I realize what a lousey Christian I am.
I couldn't live without it. I wouldn't want to. Living by biblical principles has proven to me without a hint of doubt that it is the inspired Word of God and absolute truth. If my home were on fire and I could save one thing, I would grab my Bible. Let the flames have the rest, it's all just "stuff" that won't last anyway. The Bible will endure throughout eternity.
to use the word addiction implies that it is something bad if used/done too much : ie drinking, drugs, exercise, food, city-data
yes i think like anything, if it is used to much and gets in the way of living a well rounded and healthy life it can be.
Like findinghope stated, the bible can be turned into a crutch from living in the present and from critical thought required for contemporary living. It should be a jumping off point and a book of guiding light for inspiration. I would hope it is not the end-all, for while you can have the Bible to guide, you should have the Spirit to inspire.
Too many persons have taken the bible and verses out of context as a proof-text for wrong beliefs. In such circumstances, it feeds folly. The bible is a book that in so many ways supports misogyny, segregation, and dichotomous thought based on the times in which it was written and in how it was written. As a believer, I feel no discomfort in making that statement precisely because the spirit says more. The two definitely go together, however.
As a footnote and clarification, the Koran is supposed to be G-d's inspired word as spoken and translated by Mohammed. The Christian bible was never put in that league and I don't think it belongs there either. There's more the Spirit inspires as such.
Just my two cents.
