My reaction exactly. But it's that time of year again.
I first visited the church I now attend on Halloween, two years ago. I had not belonged to any church for many years.
A young boy of about 9 sitting in the pew in front of me was dressed up. He had tears in his shirt with dark red marks like blood stains and makeup all over his face. The priest asked him to come forward, and turned the boy to the congregation and said, "Go home and look up St. <I forget the name>. He looks just like this."
Everyone laughed. I thought what a great church this must be that the priest and the people have such a good sense of humor and fun.
Two years later, this church and the wonderful Christians who make it up are part of my life and I of theirs.
It does get tedious . . . there is nothing Christlike about the judgmental attitudes of these self-proclaimed followers of Christ.

I've not celebrated Holloween since I became followers of Jesus.
It was a fight with family for years.
Just like The Santa Clause tree.
And the Bunny-business.

My late grandfather was a preacher and one of the things he never allowed us to do was celebrate Halloween. And with good reason. That is the devil's holiday.

Not that I care or have an opinion that matters about Christmas and Easter, but both are pagan based too.
I had no idea what Halloween was all about growing up in England, other than it was about ghosts and other scary things, trick and treat hadn't reached our shores then, we were more interested in our penny for the guy than candy. All we knew was Guy( Guy Fawkes)was going to get roasted on a bonfire night November 5th and he deserved it for trying to blow up the Houses of Parliament . . Burn and torment your enemy influencing our minds at such a tender age.

But if you feel obliged to send me chocolate eggs( anything cadburys), a gift for Christmas, and bonfire toffee(mmm), I can email you my address.
It's somewhat ironic that Halloween is more "Christian" than Christmas or Easter. Easter came from the pagan fertility festival of the pagan goddess Aster, thus the eggs, and Christmas was a feast of the evergreen, another pagan ritual. When the Roman Empire became "Christian" the people wanted to keep their traditional holidays, so they just changed the purpose of the occasions. All Saints Day is the basis of Halloween, or all hallowed eve, the evening before All Saints Day. At least Christians can celebrate Thanksgiving with no regrets.
