You cannot confess that Jesus is the Lord unless you have the Holy Spirit:

1Co 12:3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

Read that again. That verse says that nobody can say that Jesus is Lord unless they have the Holy Spirit.

Now..this:

Php 2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Notice that these verses prove that everyone will eventually have the Holy Spirit otherwise they could not confess that Jesus is Lord.

Also for reference (from the NASB version):

Isaiah 45
22"Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth;
For I am God, and there is no other.
23"I have sworn by Myself,
The word has gone forth from My mouth in righteousness
And will not turn back,
That to Me every knee will bow, every tongue will swear allegiance.

You cannot force someone to swear allegiance. Swearing allegiance is an oath of loyalty. This indicates the intent of your heart - if you are not loyal in your heart then you truthfully swear allegiance.

Notice God Himself swears that every one will swear allegiance to Him. I don't think He is saying they will all swear a fake oath or lie to him. He is saying that everyone will truthfully be loyal to God and give Him allegiance.

So your saying God will NOT have His knee on people's neck saying -
"C'mon, say it, say Jesus Christ is Lord before I throw you into the lake of fire"

(I suppose a certain M555 will chime in now and quote verses about the demons, when they were confronted by Christ)

Back to the verse, I love the way it was translated in the modern english version of the bible I have called The way" - (going by memory here)

"No can say Jesus is Lord and really mean it unless the Holy Spirit is helping them" . I've always thought that as being a litmus test to see if someone is really a christian.

John Hagee would have us believe that the Holy spirit will not only enable that confession, if they still won't do it, God will break their legs.

SOME have the picture of "For the Gory of God the father"

As a matter of fact, Luke 20:43 and Acts 2:35 both say 'the LORD said to my LORD, ''SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, 35] UNTIL I MAKE THINE ENEMIES A FOOTSTOOL FOR THY FEET.''

The Bible must be interpreted in the time in which it was written. In ancient times, It was usual with conquerors to put their feet on the necks of vanquished leaders, as emblematical of the state of subjection to which they were reduced, and the total extinction of their power.

In like manner, Jesus Christ will 'so to speak', place His foot on the heads of His enemies. Simply language used to describe the fact that all of His enemies will be subjected to Him, and then these defeated enemies of Christ (unbelievers and fallen angels) will be thrown into the lake of fire where they will spend eternity in a state of utter ruin and uselessness in torment forever (Revelation 20:10-15).

Mock the word of God if you will, but God cannot be mocked. Gal. 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. Those who deny the eternal punishment in the lake of fire which awaits those who die without Christ can kid themselves for now, and can allow themselves to be deceived for the present, but reality looms ahead in their future and those who didn't understand the issue of salvation and the need to make a conscious decision to place their faith in Christ will be lost, forever lost.

Mike, do you believe that someone can confess that Jesus is Lord and NOT have the Holy Spirit?

many ppl DO lie, pretend to be something they're not,and for that matter, many go to church for all the wrong reasons..to make themselves appear Holy in times of personal crisis, for starters.lots of businessppl do it.
then when something goes awry, ppl will say 'no way,he couldn't have done that...he's a Deacon in the church!! ..has been for ages!'

not everyone who says "Lord,Lord..will enter the Kingdom of God,but only those who do the will of My Father in heaven".

Have you studied Gnosticism in depth?

One of the God fathers of the doctrine of Hell and eternal torment in Christianity, Augustine, was originally a Manichean, and he interpolated many of the doctrines of Mani into Christianity when he converted to Roman Catholicism after Christianity had became the state religion of Rome.

If you knew anything about Gnosticism, you would realize that contemporary orthodox fundamentalist Christianity is very much doctrinally influenced by early gnostic and Pagan doctrines, the roots of which can be traced all the way back through the pharisees to ancient Zoroastrianism, the mystery religion of ancient Babylon.

Even the form of worship commonly known today as "church" or otherwise synagogue comes from Ancient Babylon, when the idea of building many different places of worship for local veneration was first developed and then later it was adopted by Israel before the building of the second temple. These churches were where the locals would gather to hear the high priest preach to them explaining the exoteric traditions of their religion and explain the will of God. Of course the local temples or churches back then were also parasites living off the labor of the community through temple taxes, etc. ...

Actually, I would love to see how many of so called professing Christians even understand that verse. To say Jesus IS Lord, and not some future tense Lord or King. You know this, because it is being preached. To confess Jesus as Lord, is to deny the devil's world-systems. You know this, as it is called Babylon and her daughters. It is also called the beast systems.

But many so called professing Christians will deny this because of the pains it will cause. The loss of monies, power and prestige. Their desires to make wise, and their love of money. Their lofty places of worship, and their bedding down with these systems. They are Jezebel, and they are damned, unless they repent.

To call Jesus accursed is anathema. NO ONE who has the Spirit would ever do this, because the Spirit has revealed who and what Jesus the risen Christ is. Actually, it would be redundant, as it goes against reason and logic. Why would God give you His Spirit to even let you curse His Son.

But, like I said.

Using this verse to promote some doctrine is almost funny, since the people using such a verse have hardly a clue to what it even means.

Be blessed, and proclaim even to the death, Jesus as Sovereign King. Even if it means, death of this earthly body. In this there is no fear, as Jesus Himself said.
