Yes I believe we definitely have to ask for forgiveness for our sins and keep doing it because we're all sinners and we sin every day. BUT, I think it is also very important to ask those around us for forgiveness when we trespass against them. In fact, it's extremely important because it frees our hearts of bitterness and unforgiveness.
And you're right.....we are ignorant as unbelievers and I do believe that God will have mercy on all of us, not just the believers.
If we have to continue asking forgiveness for sin, what is the difference between Christ and the Law? The Jews also had to confess sin every year. Now, we have to confess it every day??
How much of your christianity is biblical? That is the question. Since Paul was ignorant, he seems to have stymied a lot of "christians" to the point of them wanting him removed from the cannon. Try figuring out this ignorant man's Romans-he offends nearly everyone. He had that problem, evidently, early on. If he is the pattern of ignorance, then many so called christians are just in plain darkness and have no ignorance, or the least of ignorance that they should have-I wish I was as ignorant as him! The oracle at Delphi said that the god said of Socrates that he was the wisest of men, that was because he could distinguish what he knew from what he did not. That implies an ignorance, but it also implies a great knowing. For the christian, this great knowing would be the important wisdom (from the bible; where else are you going to get this knowledge? I would really like to know. But I already know. I know, anywhere but the bible, and why, because it says a lot of things no one wants to hear) and his/her ignorance of the stony ground, thorns and thistles, and the lack of internal root or soil depth that Jesus spoke of in the sower parable.
We are told that we must ask forgiveness for our sins.
Did Saul or the early church do this?

Saul condemn the Christians and stoned the one that he caught, there was no forgiveness there, or mercy ...... After Saul converted and became a believer to Christianity, he changed his name to Paul........In 2 Corinthians 2:10-11..Apostle Paul says ...``To whom you forgive anything, I forgive also for If I forgave anything to whome I forgave it for your sakes forgive I in the person of Christ.......Lest satan should get an advantage of us for we are noy ingorant of his devices...... There are many examples where the Gospel of Lord Jesus is founded of the remission of sin through repentance .......

But we do not see Saul asking God for forgiveness. Neither do we read that the apostles/early church were asking God for forgiveness of sins.
So wherever did modern Christianity get this teaching of asking forgiveness for sins, since it is not based on Scripture??

It will not matter how much of the "sausage-making" was involved in the creation of the current scriptures in the various canons . . . it will have no impact on the true bible believing Bibleans.
