Hi, I am looking to transfer to the city to continue my undergraduate studies. I was recently accepted into Loyola and Depaul but I do not know which one to choose...

I am interested in studying psychology and continuing onto graduate school for school counseling. Does anyone know any information about DePaul/Loyola's psychology program or their school counseling program???

Also, what is the difference in obtaining a MA for school counseling compared to a M.Ed. in school counseling?

Please help me...I am completely torn between these schools!!

Both schools feed a fair number of students into elementary & high schools throughout the region. Both have a pretty wide alumni base.

I'd worry more about completing undergrad in a top flight manner than about any grad programs, though in general the M.Ed. programs tend to have more options for folks already working and the MA tends to have more of an 'on-campus/full time student' mix.

Jobs are tight in schools -- I'd do everything I could to make sure there are actual jobs out there...

I would personally say DePaul (I went there) but you can't really go wrong with either. Both are good private schools.

Loyola is right on the Lake. DePaul is right in Lincoln Park. I'd say visit each campus and then make your decision.

Academically, it's probably a wash. If you want to party on the weekends, I'd go with DePaul. You can walk to lots of different places from campus. Even Wrigley Field is only 2 L stops away. If you're going to be living on campus, they have a sweet dorm that's only a few years old called Loft Right. Very nice and modern. Definitely good for the college "experience."

I, too, am hoping to transfer from a community college to a Chicago college with a Psychology degree. Loyola and DePaul were my top two picks, and ultimately, I fell completely in love with Loyola.

I have a cousin who went to DePaul and loved it and a professor who went to Loyola and loved it.

But no college is one size fits all. I agree with the above poster in the suggestion that you should visit both campuses and see which feels like more of a fit.

I can't really answer many of your direct questions as I haven't personally looked into things such as the difference in obtaining a MA for school counseling compared to a M.Ed. in school counseling.
