Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and I was just wondering what experiences you guys have had with rodent control in apartment buildings? Are there any ways that you have used to effectively eliminate rats from your buildings? I would prefer non lethal means if possible. Thanks

If you need to recapture a pet rat you could use something like this: Pest-stop Rat Cage by: Procter Bros Ltd - Amazing Animal Accessories -

I don't think those are really suitable to control rats in an apartment building, as you would need to relocate the rats and that would be a messy time consuming problem.

The City uses the bait stations like this kind from Protecta, they are very effective and require less maintenance then having the ones with the snap traps, but honestly the snap trap in a housing is the way to go: Rodent Control Products, Rat Bait, Mice Bait, Rat Bait, Bait Stations, Rat Control, Mice Control, Rats, Mice

Forget "non-lethal". Where would you take rats you catch? How would you feel if you found someone releasing rats behind your building?

Large snap traps work best for rats. Use a an aromatic cheese as bait - hard cheeses work well. I've had good luck using snap traps and small bits of aged Gouda. Another good trap is setting up a large bucket with peanut butter smeared about 4" below the rim and then hang a lid that is just a bit smaller than the pot top over that. Put a bit of PB on the rim as well. Walther sells a nice laser sighted pellet gun (Nighthawk) that is great too, but you need to drive down to Indiana to get it.
