My husband and I are looking to buy a home and came across a few in WGP and are wondering what kind of neighborhood this is. We have a 1 1/2 yr. old son and are looking to raise a family in our new home. I've read some posts on here about EGP and do not plan on moving there, but I really didn't see anything about the west side of garfield park. So I'm basically wondering if the two are the same and if not what's the difference? Thanks in advance! (also more specifically, there's a house on Congress and Karlov that we're looking at)

West Garfield Park is equally bad if not worse than East Garfield Park. There is some gentrification but very little in comparison to East Garfield Park. There are other neighborhoods. Generally The Westside is rough country. Many in this forum can give better advice.

Karlov & Congress is unofficially called K-town since all the north-south streets start with a K. It's one of the worst neighborhoods in Chicago. I'd steer clear.

VERY rough; violent and infested with drugs and gangs. Stay away.

WGP is the second- or third-most violent neighborhood in a notoriously violent city. I wouldn't live there if someone gave me a house; I sure wouldn't pay for one by there.

Thanks all! and Mister Mappy I got all excited and thought it was cute that it was called k town right up until you said it's one of the worst! lol thanks again for the info I will probably keep looking in bucktown which is originally where we wanted to live. Unless you all know anything about that neighborhood, I'm assuming it's a lot better than wgp because I worked there years ago and loved it.

Bucktown still has sporadic gang violence but it's worlds better than Garfield Park (east or west).

West Garfield Park is arguably worse than East Garfield Park.
