I recall a Trib article about Chicago judges throwing out speeding tickets based on Lidar since Lidar has yet to be proven to be accurate and is therefore inadmissible as evidence. Well, this has unfortunately become personally relevant.

Are these cases still being thrown out? What should I do to increase the chance of having my case dismissed?

If I contest the ticket and lose, I suppose it's too late to go to traffic school to avoid having the conviction on my record (and therefore affect my insurance). Hence, I'm trying to decide whether I should risk my Lidar-based ticket not being thrown out.

Any additional info would be appreciated.

According to a Sun Times article on that issue, all you need to do is show up in court and the ticket will be dismissed. You won't even have to testify. You won't lose.

The ticket will get tossed because the City's Corporation Counsel will not hold a Frye Hearing. Here is a link that discusses a case involving the Illinois State Police use of LIDAR and how not having a Frye Hearing impacts the outcome of speeding tickets issued based on LIDAR.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully the judges will still be throwing them out by the time my hearing comes around. I worry that a huge increase in hearing requests due to the news articles about this will lead the prosecutors to pursue a frye hearing, or threaten one if defendants don't pay up.

I think an increase in cases requiring Frye hearings will make them less likely to be granted. Your worries are unfounded.

Dang. That was exactly my concern, but I went ahead and requested a hearing.

I wonder if I can switch course and change my plea to guilty and go to traffic court??

So what's the verdict Rongoe??

I just got a Lidar speeding ticket tonight for going 16 over on Cicero Ave. Wondering if it's worth fighting in court.

Anyone else fight a Lidar ticket recently and get off.

Also is there any keywords I need to say in my defense against Lidar?

The risk of a conviction was too great in my view and wanting to avoid higher insurance rates, I paid the fine and will do traffic school. Had I had evidence that lidar cases were still being tossed out, I would have fought it, but I found no such evidence.
