Oh they are so amazing. I've been eating like two a week. The best ones in Chicagoland are at County Line Orchard in Hobart, IN but they may be closed for the season. Here in town, Dinkels on Lincoln and School makes them pretty well.

Cider donuts
I've been looking, too, and discovered good ones at Tag's Bakery on Central Street in Evanston. Relieved not to have to drive for an hour to get some!!!

You're only going to find true cider mill donuts at an actual cider mill...out in the country. However, I cannot recommend enough Dinkel's donuts! All of their baked goods are outstanding, but they do specifically make 'apple cider' donuts. They're so addictive!

I'll second the rec for the apple cider donuts at Dinkel's, that's probably my favorite donut place I've found on the north side by far. It's unfortunate how much all of Chicago is littered with below mediocre Dunkin' Donuts everywhere. Yuck!
