Looks like Apple is not building in Block 37 and has decided for North / Clybourne. Any ideas on this?

Article:

A month after speculation over an Apple store at Block 37 was the center of a lawsuit filed by another Block 37 tenant, Apple itself announced the location for its newest Chicago store: North & Clybourn. The new store will go up on the site of an old gas station where North, Clybourn, and Halsted all intersect.

Who knows? Cheaper rent and better car and foot traffic visibility?

This story is old anyway.

Btw Bill Smith comment is pretty stupid on the surface. "The Loop is playing to a slightly lower socio-economic group than North and Clybourn. Look at the demographics of Lincoln Park." Does he not know of all of the low income people that live a couple of blocks away from North and Clybourn? I hope he does and is just spinning. Besides North and Clybourn is just barely in the Lincoln Park "community area."

But if you look at the company's website you can see beyond the surface. That should explain your question.

if the city would make huge free parking lots disguised as high rises or whatever on michigan ave, then it would be the biggest shopping district in the US, so many people would come to michigan ave. that itd also be the most congested street in the US, the way it was in those old black and white pictures. I wish I was the mayor sometimes, theylle make their money back right away by all the new tenants that would move in and open stores and pay taxes.

Default Get off my street

What cities offer huge free parking lots in prime real estate areas like Mag mile and State street?

I can't think of any...

The city is already broke and cannot afford to purchase lots like that. It is also congested enough with cars. If people want to come to shop, take the CTA or Metra.

I'm amazed at a what a complete zoo that area has become on the weekends. It can take 20 minutes to drive three blocks. I dread having to go there (except during the week, which is fine).

Funny, I didn't realize that the Magnificent Mile was hurting for shoppers...

It already is that crowded. And we're not talking about Michigan Avenue or the Mag Mile, we're talking about State Street and the Loop.

Apple is known for doing a very, very thorough analysis when locating their stores.
