My question. What's the salary level for a CTA train operator? Do they pay so low that it is impossible to attract stellar candidates?

'The train took my baby,' mom screams as stroller is dragged - Chicago Breaking News (http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2009/11/toddler-falls-from-stroller-and-off-train-platform.html - broken link)

It's kinda like being an airline pilot, you should have the best of the best running a train with hundred of passengers on board.

Seriously, this is ridiculous.

I'm pretty sure the train is unable to move if the doors are not closed, it automatically flips the little red "door issue" light on.

I'm wondering if something small, or maybe just a front wheel got caught in the door, so the door was actually closed for all intents and purposes, and the train pulled away as normal.

Crazy situation. I've seen vidoes of this happening in other places around the world.

Train operators are required to do a "visual check" by looking out the window down the length of the train at the exact same moment they push the control to shut the doors. I recall this from another incident within the past year or two.

I found a CTA salary source online:

$50-$51K? Dang. Surely, those are patronage type jobs?

I've been on a moving train while the door was open. train moved about 10ft before stopping, but the doors were wide open. I can't remember if it was the red or blue line (want to say red) but it happened at Jackson

this is one of my biggest fear, a baby or small child getting caught on or off a train by themselves (and I don't even have kids). I was once on a bus and a mother got off the bus first via the rear doors and as her son was getting off, the doors closed and the bus pulled away, kid half on, half off the bus and went several feet before it stopped. scary. didn't think it could happen on a train, but I guess it can somehow

There is a sufficient conversation about this incident on the website itself that is mentioned. 170 comments and counting.

I don't have a problem with the salary as long as the train operators/bus drivers have the right skillset for the job.

A brain? Common sense? One of my friends' mom drove a city bus (not chicago) and made some decent dough. She wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, though. I always wondered how awesome it would be to have a job as a Chicago trashman. Don't do much of anything, and get paid well. That has to get boring after a while.

Default CTA baby stroller debacle

Questions rise after stroller caught in doors at Morse 'L' - Chicago Breaking News (http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2009/11/toddler-falls-from-stroller-and-off-train-platform.html - broken link)

Am I the only one that finds this story incredibly fishy? And I don't mean on the part of the CTA.
