This may sound like a really dumb question but we lived in Chicago in our 20's and early 30's. We are thinking of moving back and we are now 40. Are there many 40-something or older professionals living in Chicago or are most of them in the burbs? I know there were a lot of 20 and 30-somethings in LP and Bucktown. Are we going to be older than most city dwelling professionals? Are there a lot of social networking events to go to, book clubs to join etc. when you are in your 40's and 50's?

Most of the nicer neighborhoods skew toward the crowd above 40 -- the sums of dough to live in some areas are just not easy to for 20 somethings to come by...

There a whole lot of age "stratification" in Chicago. Sometimes the status of a street scene shifts in a remarkable ways. Walk by the House of Blues / Marina City area when there is live show targeting those in their early twenties and it seems very different than when the Smith & Wollensky lunchtime crowd is there, or even the mid evening Thursday /Friday Bin 36 crowd...

There are tons. Lots of people I work with and am friends with are around 38-45, and they live all around the north side except in the heart of Lakeview. That tends to be a little younger.

As a forty something I would say yes, we are in Chicago.

Still, anywhere you go out for nightlife, even in River North etc., is still skewed towards younger people. They will obviously always be the majority when it comes to that.

Yet another 40-something here... although people tell me I look 35 and in my mind I'm still in my late twenties (although my body doesn't always agree).

What do many 40-somethings do in the city for fun and socializing? We do not have children.
