Everybody just wants to enjoy the scenery and have a nice time, so even thought the beach draws people in from the nearby neighborhoods, it doesn't have the crime level of the nearby neighborhoods.

Yeah, there are lots of kids too and many professor-types from Hyde Park. It's an eclectic crowd. Doesn't feel rowdy at all. I find the place pretty fascinating. And that courtyard area with the fountains and benches is the greatest place to read a book while the kids go crazy.

I'm not a South Sider so whenever I read "63rd St. Beach" I think of how it seemed to ALWAYS be closed because of bacteria levels.
