Me and my husband have been searching for single family homes in the chicago area. We want a house that is walking distance to the El. we have looked at homes in logan square, albany park and north park. Are there any young families that live in any of these areas or similar areas? are there are other areas that would be safe for a young family that we should consider? Thanks!

Roscoe Village, North Center and Lincoln Square are popular neighborhoods that have SFHs with young families. Buying here will be more than in Albany Park or Logan Square but they are much safer and there are tons of kids.

Also check Jefferson Park, Portage Park, Edison Park and Sauganash if you are on a tighter budget. Homes are not cheap in these neighborhoods but they are safe for city neighborhoods and put you relatively close to an El stop. If you can expand your search to near Metra stops your options become much less limited.
