Yes.

going back to the OP, I think you should check out the Sea Dog boat tours. I haven't yet gotten a chance to take one of these, but they look like fun. plus, it docks at Navy Pier, so either way you'll end up there, so you can decide to check it out while you wait to board or not (doesn't hurt to look around of course )

If you actually want to learn something, the CAF boat tours are far superior in my opinion. And yet you can still get a beer.

I took one years ago and even though I knew a good deal about downtown architecture i still learned a bit too. most of the other riders were already quite hammered and that also made for a joyous ride.

Well if we haven't scared the OP away just yet.....you're staying quite close to Navy Pier, and I would recommend walking over for an hour or so.

At the end of the day I NEVER go to Navy Pier...unless out of town people are visiting, and every one of them I've taken there has actually really enjoyed the visit.

Just walk the length, take in the views, grab a drink at the end, and take the Ferris Wheel. It really is beautiful with the lake and skyline.

It's the 10th most visited site in America. Sure it's a waste for locals and full of tourists....because tourists enjoy the unique setting.

Bingo - it's just one of those things that you have to check out as a tourist in Chicago, and they seem to really like it.

A couple more suggestions:
1) The Signature Lounge on the 96th floor of the Hancock Bldg for over-priced drinks. You're paying for the view, which is phenomenal. Get there before sunset and milk those drinks.

2) If you love jazz, you have to hit the Green Mill. It's a bit of a hike from where you're staying and would require a 20+ minute ride on the red line to Lawrence, but it's worth it.

And definitely do a boat tour and/or a walking tour as others have suggested.

Transt or Metro rail? Sunday mid June-09, we're looking to drive in as close and and park near a transit or metro rail prefered?. Can I get a safe suggestion from the area (parking early near I90/94 @ 290 for now... to rail in to see some of the city )
Please -all reasonable suggestions welcome. D~

Yea, actually there is a cheaper way to visit the Signature Lounge. They provide lunch buffet which will only cost 20 bucks per person and you can actually enjoy the view and take pictures while you're there.
