Hello everyone,

I am moving to Chicago in Aug/Sept with a small dog. Looking to spend around $800 for a 1-bed. It must be near the El, near a park, in a safe area. Also I'd like an area with some chill bars, preferably less frat boys and more young professionals.

What neighborhoods should I look into?
I was looking at Bucktown but it seems kind of expensive for my price range. I don't want to have too heavy of a commute into town, especially because I won't have a car.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Logan Square, Andersonville, Edgewater, Uptown (it can be pretty block by block as far as safety). West Lakeview and Roscoe Village will fit your bill too but they tend to be populated with former frat boys.

You can find all of the above for $800 in the East Village area, near the Division blue line stop.

I dunno, East Village is pretty yuppified now. If the OP is trying to avoid that you would do better to look further north (IE north of Grace by the lake, north of Fullerton/Belmont on the northwest side).

Keep looking in Bucktown. There are some good deals to be had if you have some time to really look around. And Churchill Park is a great park for dogs, always full of friends for your pup

I don't think she's looking to avoid the dreaded yupsters, mainly real life Frat Boys. Outside of Lincoln Park and the Wrigley area of Lakeview, she'll be fine.

West Lakeview, near Hamlin park. There's a nice dog park there and some chill bars/more upper 20's/young families.

Since you were looking in Bucktown, try Logan Square or Ukranian Village/East Village for a cheaper alternative with a similar, but less yuppie, demographic. You do not have to worry about being surrounded by frat boy types unless you live in Lakeview or Lincoln Park.

hi everyone,

yeah I don't mind yuppies, just loud drunken college boys. I want to be able to get to the loop in about a half hour from my apt. Also, I need to be close to a supermarket and the L since I won't be getting a car.

I have heard a lot about roscoe village, roger's park, lincoln square. What do you think about these areas? I think so far Logan square is sounding pretty good. Is it ok to walk around there at night though?

thanks!
