Filming for the "The Dark Knight Rises" is going to start in April in New Orleans.

No word on when or if shooting in Chicago is planned. Although I am sure they will be here at some point.

Chicago as Gotham City seems all too appropriate if you ask me.

Could the third city be anywhere but Chicago?

"As WBBM Newsradio 780′s Felicia Middlebrooks explains, executives with Warner Bros. says “The Dark Knight Rises” will be shot in the United Kingdom, Los Angeles, and a third undisclosed city."

"New Orleans and Detroit are reportedly in the running to host the filming. But no official announcement has been made."

No Batman for Chicago this time.

"The Caped Crusader is headed to Pittsburgh. On Tuesday, producer and director Christopher Nolan confirmed what many in the local film industry had suspected over the past few months, that the next installment in his Batman franchise, "The Dark Knight Rises," will not be returning to Chicago to shoot."

I've just finished watching the first two movies again, and the resemblance between Gotham and the real Chicago is uncanny. Thoroughly corrupt, crime infested, and crumbling, ruled by criminals with the people living in terror. It's almost like reality TV.

In the world of DC Comics (the company that publishes the Superman and Batman comics), Superman lives in Metropolis (which I always thought was NYC) and Batman lives in Gotham City (which I always assumed was Chicago). But apparantly, the creator of Batman came out one time and said that Gotham is an allegory to NYC. Doesn't make sense to me, but that is what he said.

Yep, Gotham was historically thought of as New York-ish. With the recent "darker" round of movies, however, they wanted to make use of alleys, which Manhattan doesn't really have and Chicago has lots of. Hence Gotham became more Chicago-ish.
